MEET THE OWNERS OF OCEAN BEACH, WAINUI

Johnny and Pip Williams are delighted to welcome you to Ocean Beach Motor Lodge, and invite you to come and enjoy being part of their little piece of paradise, in the picturesque village of Wainui, Gisborne.

Johnny hails from Ruatoria, and Pip is from Waikaremoana.

Johnny and Pip moved back to Gisborne after time in Auckland and Hamilton pursuing other interests to start sheep and beef farming on the Pehiri Rd at ‘Taaheke Station'. A beautiful rural setting to bring up their 3 children - Sam, Holly and Ruby.

Always keen to try something new, they purchased a Kiwifruit orchard at Opou Rd in 2021. Unfortunately in 2023 they were badly damaged by the cyclone on the orchard and the farm. After replanting at the orchard and continuing to repair the farm, they continue to grow Gold Kiwifruit for Zespri, and farm in the hills. As their businesses are reliant on the weather, they took a leap of faith into the accommodation sector and purchased Ocean Beach Motor Lodge.

They were impressed with the Mediterranean feel and beachy vibe of the building and the stunning location. Wainui Beach is a safe small village, everyone is like one big family, yet it reflects so many different nationalities, and those passionate surfers!

Our dedicated manager Caro, and our relief manager Maria take extra special care of our guests.

Johnny and Pip’s philosophy is ‘local and sustainable’ and their collective goal is for Ocean Beach to be the best accommodation in Gisborne.
